Our 13 year old Sheltie in pain from arthritis. she is hardly eathing & hides from us. she is blind & sleepy?
We are so torn, thinking she may rebound & feel horrible to end her life prematurely. We have tried acupuncture, appetite stimilants, pain meds, herbal remedies, anti inflamatory meds, ect. We dont want her to suffer but cant imagine life with out her. My grandmother just died recently so we are feeling so much loss. We have a 3 yr old lab who is her best buddy and seems to get her going. Recently the Sheltie bit the lab….very unusual. We think it is time, but how do you know for sure?
She sounds like she is in pain. Dogs have a remarkable tolerance and we often don’t realize that they are hurting. But she is hiding, barely eating, and biting her best buddy. Those are all signs that she’s really hurting.
Consult with your vet to get their opinion, since your vet knows your dog far better than anyone on YA. But from this vantage point, it really sounds like it’s time to let her go. It’s such a tough decision. I really feel for you.
