open ear hearing aid
Anatomy. Help with questions?

1. True or False? Sound is generally perceived in the cerebral cortex of the occipital lobe.
a) T
b) F

2. True or False? Theoretically, anindividual born without a middle ear would be able to hear by bone conduction with a hearing aid.
a) T
b) F

3. True or False? When we move from darkness to bright light, retinal sensitivity is lost, but visual acuity is gained.
a) T
b) F

4. Direct-acting neurotransmitters?
a) open ion channels to provoke rapid responses
b) require cyclic AMP
c) act through second messengers
d) mediate very slow responses

5. Which association regarding the function and location of the cerebrum is most accurate?
a) sensory-medial
b) motor-anterior
c) motor-medial
d) sensory-anterior

6. Which is the mildest consequence of traumatic brain injury?
a) concussion
b) swelling
c) hemorrhage
d) contusion

Thanks you! :)

1. B False
its true that sound perception occurs in the cerebral cortex… however the cerebral cortex is NOT a part of the occipital lobe.

2. A.True

3. A. True
in darkness our RODS are in charge of ’seeing’… rods are extremely sensitive to light, but they aren’t very good at distinguishing sharp edges, etc. (“visual acuity”).
then when we move to the light our CONES take over, and they aren’t as sensitive to the light but do specialize in acuity.

4. A. open ion channels to provoke rapid responses

A is very the function of direct acting neurotransmitters!
B & C are true of second messenger system–which is kinda slow
D can be 2nd messenger system, but this is also true for hormones, as well… neither of which are direct neurotransmitters.

5. hmmm… this is kinda a bizarre question…
i *think* its motor anterior.
basically the frontal lobe is in charge of motor movement, and the parietal lobe is in charge of sensory perception.
(so its definately NOT sensory-anterior.)
However, we have something called the “sensory homunculus” and a “motor homunculus”, both of which extend deep into the medial midline of the brain.

see this picture:

everything from the yellow line over to the left is the frontal lobe, which helps us initiate movement. the actual motor neurons are located in the yellow region (which continues on the surface in the midline of the brain–but you can’t see it in this picture)

everything from the blue line to the right is the parietal lobe(except the pink–the occiptial lobe, and that whole region that the green is on–which is the temporal lobe).
it is involved with sensory perception… the blue line is the direct termination of sensory afferent information, and it like wise extends along the surface of the brain into the midline.

6. A Concussion
